How to grill pineapple (basic steps)

All you need to remember about grilled pineapple is the grill temperature and the approximate timing. Other than that, it’s a breeze! Memorize it and you can grill up the sweet fruit all summer long. Here are the basic steps for how to grill pineapple (or jump right to the recipe):

  • Preheat a grill to medium high heat: that’s 375 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Remove the rind and cut the pineapple into circles. You can keep the core intact: this helps it to be easy to flip! Remember to eat around the core when serving.
  • Mix with oil and salt, just enough oil to coat and a pinch of salt to bring out the flavors.
  • Place on the grates and grill 3 to 4 minutes per side, until grill marks form.

Toppings for grilled pineapple (make it into a sundae!)

Once you take that pineapple off the grill: there’s lots of room for creativity in the toppings! The most basic way to serve it is to drizzle with honey (or agave syrup, for vegan) and a bit of chopped mint. The way that the flavors combine is beautiful and fresh. Because the pineapple is grilled without sugar, it’s nice to add a little sweetness. But if you want to take it over the top, serve it a la mode as a sundae. Here are some ideas for toppings for this grilled pineapple:

  2. Homemade whipped cream (or vegan whipped cream)
