Want a refreshing, easy to drink cocktail? A highball drink is where it’s at! A highball is a family of cocktails that use base alcohol and a larger percentage of mixer, like fruit juice, ginger ale, tonic water, or soda water. Typically they’re served over ice and often in a tall highball glass.

Two advantages of highball cocktails: they’re easy to drink because they’re more watered down than a shaken or stirred cocktail. They’re also very easy to make, often just mixed in the glass—no cocktail shaker required! Highball cocktails are perfect for summer because they’re light and refreshing: but you can drink them anytime! Here are the classics that everyone should try.

Description

Here’s how to make the best vodka tonic, one of the easiest mixed drinks of all time! This two-ingredient cocktail is bubbly, citrusy, and refreshing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ ounces (3 tablespoons) vodka
  • 4 ounces (½ cup) tonic water
  • Ice, for serving (try clear ice!)
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • 1 lime wedge, plus additional for garnish

Instructions

  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the vodka and stir several times. Pour the tonic water onto a bar spoon into the glass (to increase the bubbles).
  3. Squeeze in the juice from 1 lemon wedge and 1 lime wedge. Add the squeezed wedges into the drink, then add another lime wedge to the glass as a garnish.
